Autum storms bring snow and ice, sometimes only briefly to the Rubies. Bugs have died off execpt for spiders leaving floating webs in the air. The hot summer sun bouncing off glaciated granite rock simmers down and by now so have the crowds. Colors, while fading, accent creeks and forest.
I used to think full blown winter is the quietest time in the Rubies. But once the road become blocked by snow and ice that usually doesn’t finish melting until May, sometimes July in severe winters, the area becomes a busy mecca of snowmobilers, cross country skiiers and much more. It is anything but quiet. Fun activities abound but can mean a narrow road full of cars and noise.
